The Monkees
vs.
Evil Davy Jones
Davy Jones fought hard against his band mates for the direction and tone of their song "Stepping Stone". The band wanted to go with their consistent, pop group type sound. But Davy, oh no, Davy would not stand for this. Davy wanted to take the band in a darker direction. Eventually, as you all know, the band won and the sound stayed pop-groupish, but not before they recorded both tracks. Davy later went solo with his new band, "Six Feet Under" and recorded this song the way he wanted it. He was later quoted as saying, "If you want something done right you have to do it evil!" Enough about that, now for some good stuff! Folks, have I got a rare surprise for you, I have the original track from both versions below! Take a listen and see if you can identify which is The Monkees and which is The Evil Monkees!
This is deadicated to Hovden who gave me the idea and discovered this evil cover version of Stepping Stone by the Evil Monkees!
